Anti-War Medal by Elaine Luther (c) 2007

Artist Elaine Luther  will speak February 18th, 2 pm on the subject of her work currently on display at the Library:

“You Oughta Get a Medal for That!” Metalwork by Elaine Luther
January 6, 2012 – February 24, 2012

Harold Washington Library Center
North Upright Exhibit Case, Eighth Floor
400 S. State Street

Ms. Luther will discuss her inspiration for her medals, that she explains as medals that you wouldn’t really want to earn.  Much of the work is done in metal clay, a material that works like a clay, is fired in a kiln and then sinters together.  She will share process photos and answer questions.

Elaine Luther studied jewelry making in college, trade school and through two apprenticeships. She has taught since 1992 at a number of art centers including Lillstreet Art Center and the Indianapolis Art Center. Her sculptures have been exhibited at those art centers and Gallery I/O in New Orleans, LA and Womanmade Gallery in Chicago, IL. Upcoming shows include a solo show at Harold Washington Library and a group show, Pointe of Departure, which will include her paintings, at Joffrey Tower.
